Finally on time

It’s Monday. We’re out of groceries and I have more deadline knitting left than hours in the day and school is almost out with everything that entails and the yarn for the next project got delivered to the wrong address and we tore up the yard this weekend and the sod that we paid a bajillion dollars for was postponed a week and I’m tired.

But I’m getting ready to make myself a very nice mocha and settle in with some more How I Met Your Mother to try to knock out this deadline knitting. So it’s not all bad. And I decided that instead of 2 final winners, I’m going to do 4. Because I can. So these 4 lucky Vittorio knitters can choose either the Seven Songs e-book *or* the Sideways Shawlettes e-book.

All the winners have been e-mailed. And just so everyone gets a little something – even those who didn’t get started in times for the drawing I’m having a little sale – 25% off any PicnicKnits patterns or e-books – just use the code “mondays”. Because Mondays are very monday-ish and need a little bright spot.

Busy blurs

I’ve been so busy with deadline knitting that the days have been a blur. I keep thinking that tomorrow is Friday. Which of course it is. But I was also thinking this on Monday. And Tuesday. And well you know how it goes. And of course the boys have less than three weeks of school left which means there is something going on nearly every day. I keep waiting for things to slow down and they never do.

But we have belated winners.

My dear friend Kimber wins the BeaGin stitch markers. Which is extra nice, because Kimber was awesome and immediately stepped up to offer a prize for this KAL!

And Kelly wins the yarn from Dyeabolical! Kelly was the lovely model for my Sixpence shawlette!

I’ll email y’all to get shipping addresses. And now I’m going to do the bare minimum of housework and settle back in to knit and find out if Ted ever meets his fricking solemate on How I Met Your Mother. It’s not looking good for ole Ted, and I really think maybe they are pulling our leg about him ever finding her. Yes, I’m 4 seasons behind. So don’t spoil it for me!

Wednesday Winners

These were supposed to be Monday winners, but the week has gotten away from me. I’m cranking out samples for a new collection at an amazingly fast rate (if I do say so myself) but it leaves no time for things like thinking and remembering that I’m running a KAL. So… sorry about that!

Today we have two winners:

Brandy wins a copy of the Gauge Master spreadsheet from fairieknits!

And Emmy wins a $20 gift certificate from Palm Valley Fibers.

I’ll be e-mailing y’all so you can claim your prizes. Have you seen all the gorgeous Vittorios? This is one of my favorites – of course I’m partial because it’s also one of my best friends – but have you ever seen a better use of clown barf yarn?

Red for the win

Life just gets so busy so fast. And things all come at me at once. I’ve been working like a fiend on this new design in the gorgeous Dyeabolical superwash merino laceweight. But if you do stupid things late at night and have to rip out days of knitting things go slower. And if life descends upon you with way too many things that *must* be done right now, things go slower. But it’s gonna be gorgeous!

IMG_2391

I will just say it straight up. I am awful at photographing red. But this red is true and perfect and has depth. Even the muggles were oohing and aahing over this red.

IMG_2507

My 12 year old hand model is trying to show you the beauty of the lace stretched out here, but it doesn’t quite work.

IMG_2513

Even with some pins in place you can’t really see just how lovely this is going to be. I cannot wait to block it. You can see if you look at the pic above that I’m transitioning into the edging. I’ve been doing some serious late night charting to make this edging unique and gorgeous.

But enough about Red. She’s beautiful but not quite ready yet. But what is ready are the first two prize winners. We’re just gonna go in order so…

01Winner

Jennifer wins the handspun from DigitalNabi.

02Winner

And Melodie wins the adorable sheepy stitch markers from Knittin’ Pretty.

I’ll be emailing my winners tonight! I hope your Vittorio projects are coming along. I swear I’m gonna spend some time this evening perusing all the projects so I can see all the pretties. Next drawing next Monday!

Don’t be blue – you’re a winner!

No I don’t know what is up with the corny color jokes. I’ll blame being tired. Despite trying to cut back on things life has been so busy that it’s just insane. This weekend we had a wedding to attend, one softball game, three basketball games, and an impromptu trip to Savannah. It was crazy.

We didn’t get home last night til nearly 2am and even though the boys slept most of the way home they were literally falling asleep in their breakfast this morning. So I took pity on them and everyone went back to bed. So that is why just now at 10am, I am up choosing a winner for the Munchkinland Socks contest. I think this is the most comments I’ve ever gotten on a single post, so yay for that. And yay for Andria!

I think the lion is my favorite too. Andria, I’ll be getting in touch with you to get shipping information and thanks everyone for playing!

I love contests.

I love giving stuff away. I need to do it more often. Definitely. The winner for the Berlioz/Swoolk contest is Kimberley:

So congratulations to Kimberley – I shot you an e-mail to get your information – and thanks everyone for playing along. Back to stocking knitting for me!

Winner, winner, turkey dinner

What? We’re having turkey tonight, not chicken. Easiest dinner ever. Throw a mess of rice in the rice cooker. Brown up a pound or so of ground turkey with garlic, cayenne, chili powder, salt, pepper, and some Braggs or soy sauce to taste. Throw in a few good handfuls of fresh green beans chopped small and cook til just crisp tender. Serve over rice with some fruit on the side and you have a super tasty dinner!

But you did not come here for a recipe. You came here to see if you won a free copy of the KnitCircus 2011 Gifts issue. So here are my winners, that I am e-mailing here in just a quick minute. (Sidenote: Don’t all minutes last exactly the same amount of seconds? What is this “quick minute” that I speak of?)

And the winners are:

Courtney who loves chewy sweet tarts!
DPUTiger who loves peanut butter cups!
Janice who loves the little mini kitkats!
Christine who loves sugar babies!
And Lobug who loves candy corn!

Thanks for playing guys!

Delius – The Second Song

This pattern started with a tweet. Before I had completely formulated the plan Liberty’s Yarn was offering yarn support. And when I received the gorgeous yarn, I knew there was a gorgeous leafy motif I wanted to incorporate. And so it went.

IMG_4354

We won’t speak of my math-impaired brain or how I frantically knit the sample for this in a 2-day coffee-powered Doctor Who haze. The shaping on this is simple and works quite nicely and makes a wide crescent shaped shawlette that is easy to wrap around around you. The small size is 60″ wide and 12″ deep. The large size is 72″ wide and 15″ deep.

IMG_4366

This shawl is named after the March of Spring by Frederick Delius. I went to my favorite used book store – Chamblin’s Bookmine – to see if I could find any books about Frederick Delius.

IMG_4351

I stood in front of the composers section at the book store. This is the biggest, best bookstore I have ever been in by the way – 55,000 square feet of books. Miles and miles of aisles of books. Every sort imaginable. If you want it, they have it. And they have the best employees – true bookworms – who can always help you find what you need. But I stood there trying to find something on Delius. He’s a bit obscure, so nothing jumped out at me. Until I saw the word “Samarkand” on a book spine. We listened to a great fantasy story a while back about the Amulet of Samarkand. So that was the very first book I pulled off the shelf.

IMG_4350

Yep, Frederick Delius. I stood there in amazement, and I think I must have been talking to myself in amazement because the lady next to me gave me an odd look and scurried away. Knitting this shawlette was an adventure, and with Liberty‘s gorgeous Bluetopia yarn I loved every stitch.

IMG_4352

Delius is the second of the Seven Songs. It’s available in the e-book for $21.95 – and there are five more patterns coming. Or you can buy it individually for $6.00

And with this song there is a special bonus. Liberty kindly sent me two skeins of the Absinthe Bluetopia, so you have an opportunity to win a skein! Comment on this entry and you will be entered to win your very own skein. I will draw the winner on Friday!

Because I love you more than my luggage

We have winners! Lots of winners!

I’ve send out e-mails this afternoon so I can get shipping addresses. I’m going away for a (hopefully) relaxing weekend at the river, so I won’t be shipping out til Monday!
